Magazine Cover: Practice
Before we began working on the magazine cover, we went over the different conventions magazine covers have. Conventions like mastheads, coverlines, strips, and more. I learned that said conventions help a magazine pop to the public and convey the genre to anyone looking to buy one.
My magazine cover is kind of like a lifestyle magazine for animals. This specific cover features the "Dog of the Year." To convey this genre, the masthead of the magazine cover is "Dogue" like Vogue but for animals, the featured dog as the cover image, and catchy coverlines and puffs that relate to what animal owners would be interested in reading about.
As for conventions I used catchy coverlines to catch the attention of people who might be interested in the subject, a strip to highlight the main purpose of the magazine, and contrasting but matching colors to highlight certain lines and puffs.
At the start, I was having trouble maneuvering over the application, I was confused about how to to color texts, import images, make covers, and just all of the basic things. But with some practice, I eventually learned how to get everything done. After getting used to it, everything came pretty easily.
Next time I have to used Adobe InDesign, the project will probably come a lot easier to me, as I have had a lot more practice.
If I choose to do the magazine option instead of the video, this assignment and practice will definitely help me for that.
